It will not come as a surprise to most, but due to the extraordinary environment we find ourselves in at the moment the committee has made the unfortunate decision to cancel the 2020 Positive Rugby Foundation NSWU10/U11 State Gala.
The event was due to be held at the Central Coast Sports & Recreation Complex at Tuggerah NSW on the 20th/21st July – our hosts being the Central Coast Junior Rugby Union.
We have made this decision cognisant of the fact that our players, families, coaches and administrators from our District and Zone teams,as well as our referees, host club and council, all require some level of clarity moving forward. We understand that teams would need ample time to plan travel and accommodation for the weekend and want to give plenty of notice so that people are able to alter any plans already made. In this environment there are too many risk associated with these things and the safety of our rugby community and supporters is paramount.
As it stands now we have the Govt “Social Distancing” rules in place until the end of June, plus the NSWRU Community Rugby staff have all been stood down till end of June. So without any fresh information – then the best case scenario at the moment could potentially see our rugby clubs resume “training” in early July. This would simply not allow for enough time for most clubs to run Rep trials, trainings etc and be prepared for such an event. Plus with so much of the season already lost it is probably more appropriate to focus on our club teams at this stage. It is therefore more prudent for us to make this decision now.
